Young Consumers of the Year Competition

West Yorkshire Trading Standards invites you to enter a team of 14 to 17 year olds in the Young Consumers of the Year Competition. A cross between ‘University Challenge’ and ‘Watchdog’ the competition is a fun and engaging opportunity for young people to learn about their rights and responsibilities. Wide subject areas are covered including: Food & Health Safety and the Environment Managing Money and Finance Credit and the European Dimension
Not only does the competition make students more informed consumers but also gives them essential life skills, preparing them for life beyond full time education. The Education & Community Engagement Team currently offer Consumer Law lessons to people involved in the competition. There are also plenty of online links to assist all involved.           The competition is carried out as follows:

Qualifying heats:
Register your team by completeing the form below or by contacting: skitchen@wyjs.org.uk, 0113 2898267.
Once registered you will be sent a qualifying exam pack.

Regional Final: The highest scoring team from each of the West Yorkshire districts along with the highest scoring runner up of all the districts will go through to the Regional Final. The regional final was held in March 2010 The 6 teams battled it out for their place in the National Finals.

National Final: The Regional winner will go to the National Final which will be held at the TSI National Conference in Edinburgh w/c 14th June 2010.

Could all entrants make sure when selecting your team that examination commitments will not prevent them from competing in the Regional and National Final, should your team qualify.
